AP: Obama wants $33 billion more for war

The Obama administration plans to ask Congress for an additional $33 billion to fight wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, on top of a record request for $708 billion for the Defense Department next year, The Associated Press has learned.


Clinton accepts Japan's delay on U.S. base decision

"The Japanese government has explained the process they are pursuing to reach a resolution" on relocating the Futenma air station, "and we respect that," she told a news conference after meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada at a Honolulu hotel.

Fort Hood troops ordered to Afghanistan

The Pentagon has ordered 3,100 troops, mostly based in Fort Hood, Texas, to deploy to Afghanistan. The 4th Combat Aviation Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division should arrive in summer. The 2,600 soldiers assigned to the brigade will be accompanied by about 500 support troops.

Haitians piled bodies along the devastated streets of their capital Wednesday after a powerful earthquake flattened the president's palace, the cathedral, hospitals, schools, the main prison and whole neighborhoods. Officials feared hundreds of thousands may have perished but there was no firm count.


Navy doctor accused of sexual assaults to face court-martial

A Navy doctor accused of sexually assaulting his patients in Japan and Kuwait will be court-martialed, Navy officials confirmed Thursday.


U.S. Army Africa adds two general officers

As a sign of its ongoing transformation, U.S. Army Africa has added two more general officers to its ranks. Brig. Gen. David Elmo and Brig. Gen. Isaac Osborne will be introduced to the community in a ceremony next week.


Spangdahlem AB stands to lose F-16 squadron

Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany stands to lose 450 personnel and one of its two F-16 fighter jet squadrons if Congress approves an Air Force plan to retire early about 250 fighter jets.


Navy faults leadership in incomplete hazing probe

Leaders should have done more to investigate numerous hazing allegations against a gay sailor and others in a unit stationed in Bahrain several years ago, the Navy said Wednesday.
